How to use the XML Sitemap Generator

    1. Enter your site address and paste the page addresses, one per line.
    2. Optionally add a last-modified date.
    3. Check the skipped list, then download sitemap.xml.
    4. Upload it to your site and submit its address in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

    Tips for better results

    • List only the pages you want people to find. Leave out thank-you pages, login pages and duplicates.
    • Use the same version of every address as your canonical one: same https, same www or non-www, same slash style.
    • Update the file when you add important pages, or use a plugin or script that does it automatically.

    Limitations you should know about

    • The tool does not crawl your site. It only turns the list you give it into XML, so it cannot find pages for you.
    • One file holds up to 50,000 addresses and 50 MB. Larger sites need several files and an index.
    • Google ignores the priority and change frequency values. They are optional and included only because some tools read them. A sitemap helps discovery but does not guarantee indexing.

    Frequently asked questions

    Do I need a sitemap?

Small, well-linked sites are usually found without one. A sitemap helps with new sites, large sites and pages with few links.

    Where do I submit it?

In Google Search Console under Sitemaps, and in Bing Webmaster Tools. You can also add a Sitemap line to robots.txt.

How do I get the list of my pages?

From your CMS, your navigation, or an export from your site builder. This tool does not crawl.
