Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to your server?

No. The image tools run entirely in your browser using built-in browser features and code served with the page. Your files are never sent to WebAssetKit. You can check this in your browser’s developer tools (Network tab) or by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads.

Is WebAssetKit really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark or daily limit. The site may show advertising to cover hosting; see the Privacy Policy for how that is handled.

Which image formats can I use?

You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG, plus AVIF and HEIC when your browser can decode them. You can save as JPG, PNG or WebP (where your browser supports encoding it). Each tool page lists its own limits.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no server limit because nothing is uploaded, but your device’s memory is the limit. The tools refuse files over 25 MB (5 MB for Base64) or above 100 megapixels, and mobile browsers may fail earlier on very large images.

Why can’t I save as AVIF or HEIC?

Browsers can read those formats but cannot create them from a web page. Only JPG, PNG and WebP can be created reliably, and WebP creation is not available in every browser (Safari has historically lacked it).

Why is my compressed PNG not much smaller?

PNG is a lossless format and photographs contain a lot of detail. This site reduces colours to shrink PNGs, which works very well for graphics and screenshots but less so for photos. Converting photos to JPG or WebP usually saves far more.

Do the tools work offline?

After the page has loaded, the tools do not need the internet. Reload will need a connection, because this site is not an installable offline app.

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Old browsers that lack basic features such as the Canvas or File APIs will show a message instead of the tool.

How do I report a bug or suggest a tool?

Use the Contact page. Include the browser, the device, and the file type you were using.
